Looking for a good family restaurant? Hong Thanh Vietnamese & Chinese Restaurant at Sixth & Court Streets in Reading is the ultimate family dining operation. Owners Huong Huynh and her brother Thanh have spent more than 20 years operating this restaurant, and it is completely family-run. You’ll find everyone from Huong and Thanh’s mother, Muoi, making dumplings in the kitchen to niece Ashley, a sophomore at Wilson High School, waiting tables. Even adorable five-year-old Caitlyn, Huong’s niece, can be found either showing you to your table or taking your children on a tour of the kitchen.

Although you’d never know it by looking at their modern, bustling 7,000-square-foot space, Hong Thanh was not an overnight success. In 1985, Huong and Thanh opened up their first place in a little 1,500-square-foot space on Chestnut Street. Thanks to its great food, the unique little restaurant slowly grew a loyal following. After many successful years they were beginning to outgrow their humble space. Despite their 10 plus years in business and a proven track record of success, Thanh still had a hard time finding someone to back their expansion plans. But in the late 90s Patriot Bank saw their potential and agreed to help them open their new, much larger location at 22 N. Sixth St.
