  • Francine M. Scoboria – Editor

francine_retouched1Berks County native Francine M. Scoboria has served as editor-in-chief for Berks County Living since October 2007. She built a career in journalism over the years, earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Pennsylvania State University and then working as a reporter for the Reading Times from 1992 through 1999. During her adrenaline-filled years at the local newspaper, she covered the Kutztown area, the five colleges in Berks County and the medical beat. Her favorite newspaper experience was working on Voices, the award-winning teen section of the newspaper, from its beginning in 1995 through 1998. She is thrilled to be reunited with several Voices writers who now write for Berks County Living!

A veteran professional writer, Francine next served for more than five years as a grant-proposal writer for Penn State Berks. She also worked for two years as a public relations writer for Albright College. In 2005, she worked as a freelance writer for Berks County Living, during which time she dreamed of serving as editor someday! Francine is currently pursuing a master’s degree in English literature from Kutztown University. She now dreams of teaching journalism and professional writing at the college level someday in the future.

When she is not working, you can find Francine spending quality time with her sons, Danny, 8, and Sean Patrick, 4, and enjoying life in the scenic Oley Valley. Danny is a second grade student at Oley Valley Elementary School and plays soccer and baseball for the Oley Valley Youth League. When he grows up, he wants to be a scientist/artist. Sean Patrick is a pre-school student at the Yocum Institute for Arts Education, Wyomissing, where Francine channeled her moods as a teen-age drama student. Sean plans to work as a Spaceman when he grows up. Francine also serves the non-profit Opportunity House in Reading as a member of the Souper Bowl Committee, helping to raise awareness and funds for our neighbors in need.
